Our relationships with health care providers and grassroots organizations are vital to achieving our social mission goals. When we all work together, we move closer to making our entire state a vibrant community where everyone thrives.
We rely on our partners’ expertise and support to help us meet the unique needs and challenges of the members we serve. In turn, our partners count on us to provide resources that amplify their efforts and expand their reach.

Value Partnerships reaches major milestone

In 2024, Value Partnerships celebrated 20 years of collaborative efforts to transform Michigan’s health care landscape. We’ve worked together with physicians, physician organizations and hospitals across Michigan to make health care better and more efficient.

  • $6.3 billion saved in medical costs
  • 20,000 participating physicians
  • 40
  • 100-plus
  • 79 of 83 Michigan counties have participating physicians

Collaborating with community organizations

  • We continued our ongoing commitment to the with a $100 million contribution in 2024. This foundation works to improve the health and wellness of Michigan residents while reducing health care costs.
  • In its 16th year, Building Healthy Communities continued to create healthier school environments through physical and emotional health-focused initiatives. We selected 135 K-12 schools across the state to participate in the 2024 program.
  • In anticipation of Detroit hosting the 2024 NFL Draft, Blue Cross partnered with the Lomas Brown Jr. Foundation and Nate Schwarze and Eagle Sports Club to present a free, community, youth football clinic in the city’s eastside. Over 325 local youths participated in the April event led by Detroit Lions alumni celebrity coaches.
  • We partnered with the Better Business Bureau to offer a series of free community presentations called Red Flags of Fraud. This series aimed to help older adults learn ways to protect themselves from financial fraud.
  • In March 2024, Blue Cross supported Paving the Path for Student Success. This gala and auction event raised $1 million for Eton Academy, which educates students in grades 1 through 12 with learning differences.
  • Blue Cross celebrated 20 years of support for our Strengthening the Safety Net program. Our grant program invests in Michigan clinics that provide free or low-cost medical, dental and behavioral health care to tens of thousands of Michiganians — many of whom would otherwise have to forego care. This year we awarded grants totaling $914,000 to 48 clinics located in 23 Michigan counties.

Strengthening the Safety Net program’s results since 2005

  • 250,000 low income, uninsured or underinsured patients who’ve received care
  • 2 million office visits provided
  • $200 million saved in health care costs by helping patients avoid unnecessary emergency room visits
