Members elect 12 to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Board of Directors

DETROIT, May 27, 2026 – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan members elected a slate of 12 individuals to the company’s board of directors on May 21, 2026. The elected slate is part of the 35 directors who make up the full board.
“Our board of directors reflects the voices of the people we serve,” said Tricia A. Keith, BCBSM president and CEO. “This member-driven process helps ensure strong governance and keeps our company connected to the needs of our communities and a changing healthcare environment.”
The 12 elected board members and their components are as follows:
  • RonaldBieber – Large and Medium Group Labor
  • Karen Cheeseman – Provider
  • Rosalind Lullove Cooperman – Small Group and Individual
  • Shauna Ryder Diggs, M.D. – At Large
  • Christopher Maksym, Pharm.D. – Provider
  • Demmy McBride – Large and Medium Group Management
  • Gary McInerney – Small Group and Individual
  • Anne Mervenne – Large and Medium Group Management
  • Susanne Mitchell – Large and Medium Group Labor
  • Brian Peters – Provider
  • Renee Turner-Bailey – Large and Medium Group Labor

Gregory A. Sudderth of Traverse City was re-elected as board chairman, and F. Remington Sprague, M.D., of Muskegon as board vice chairman.
Sudderth is founder and president of CIR, Inc. dba Executive Labor–Management Services Inc., a company specializing in addressing the needs of private and public sector employees and their respective local unions.
“Chairman Sudderth brings deep leadership experience and a strong commitment to our mission,” Keith said. “He has played an important role in helping shape the board’s work on behalf of our members and our mission.”
Sprague is the retired vice president and chief medical officer of Mercy Health Muskegon — now Trinity Health Muskegon — a faith-based healthcare organization committed to delivering high-quality, comprehensive, accessible and personalized care.
“Dr. Sprague offers valuable clinical perspective and extensive health care experience to his role as vice chairman,” Keith said. “His guidance continues to strengthen the board’s work in service to our members.”
The 2026-2027 Blue Cross board consists of 16 seats filled by Blue Cross customers from large and medium group management and labor segments. In addition, eight seats are filled by medical professionals; six seats are filled by individual subscribers and small groups; and four seats are at-large. One seat is filled by the company’s chief executive officer.
