During 2025, a new reality continued to shape healthcare across Michigan: healthcare services continued growing more expensive, utilization of services continued to surge and affordability continued weighing heavily on the people and organizations we serve. Across Michigan, families and employers are facing sustained pressure from rising costs. From higher prescription drug prices to greater use of an already expensive health care system, these pressures have made health insurance affordability one of the most urgent challenges in front of us. These pressures are showing up in premiums, out-of-pocket costs and difficult decisions about care. At the same time, expectations for a simpler, more responsive health care experience continue to grow — making it even more important to address both cost and complexity in meaningful ways.
Momentum Through Transformation reports on how Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan responded with focus and urgency in 2025. We are improving how members access and use their benefits, while taking concrete steps to manage costs — from reducing our own administrative expenses to advancing value-based partnerships with providers and expanding the use of lower-cost treatment options like biosimilars. This work is grounded in collaboration across the health care system and reinforced by our nonprofit mission to reinvest in Michigan’s communities. Together, these efforts are strengthening our ability to provide access to high-quality care and continue making meaningful progress toward affordability for the more than 5 million members who rely on us.
At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, our mission is clear: to be our members’ trusted partner by offering affordable, innovative products that support their care and health. In 2025, that mission shaped our work as affordability remained a central concern for many Michigan families and employers.
