If you have health insurance questions, we’re always happy to help. In addition to customer service representatives and agents, we have more than 600 health plan advisors across Michigan by the phones to take your call (855-237-3501). That being said, we may not be in a place to answer your question if it pertains to the Marketplace. Not sure where to turn? Here are some FAQs that might help.

Where can I get one-on-one help enrolling in a health plan?

There are many ways to get help enrolling or renewing your health insurance this open enrollment period. If you’re a savvy online shopper, you can visit bcbsm.com/myblue. If you prefer to have a personal advisor, you can call a health plan advisor at 855-237-3501. If you prefer that face-to-face support, you can stop by one of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s statewide walk-in centers. What can you expect when you call Blue Cross? Our members will tell you. Watch this video on a member who got personal help while she was abroad, or this video that tells the story of a Mackinac Island carriage driver who got coverage after not having insurance for years.

How do I update my income and other personal information?

Questions or changes to your personal circumstances such as employment, income levels, residence, family members, life events (marriage, divorce, births) are handled through the Marketplace, as they keep the official record of that information and handle any subsequent changes. CMS houses a list of life events on the Marketplace website, healthcare.gov.

Who can help me see if I qualify for financial assistance?

If you’re looking to estimate your financial assistance for budgeting purposes, visit bcbsm.com/subsidy or text “4subsidy” to 222-752. Any questions related to applying your financial assistance to your monthly premium or claims cost must be handled by the Marketplace. The Marketplace handles, approves and verifies all subsidy amounts.

How do I cancel or change my Marketplace health insurance policy?

Requests to change a product or cancel coverage must be made to the Marketplace, not your insurer. Consumers have the ability to cancel their Marketplace plan at any time by logging into their Marketplace account and selecting the "Terminate/end all coverage" button. Once your insurer receives the update information from the Marketplace, changes are typically made within a 24 - 48 hours. FAQ Fridays aim to answer common questions we receive regarding the 2015 open enrollment period. Submit your questions to the Customer Action Center. To get one-on-one assistance, call a health plan advisor at 855-269-9898 or visit one of our statewide walk-in centers. Photo Credit: Premnath Thirumalaisamy
