For several months, our two organizations have worked tirelessly to reach agreement on a new payment contract and partnership model. Today, we are pleased to announce that Corewell Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan have found common ground.
The new, long-term partnership between Michigan’s largest health system and Michigan’s largest health insurer enables our organizations to partner with one another to advance our shared mission of improving health care quality, access and affordability for patients. This is what people want – their hospitals and insurers working well together. We are very excited about our partnership’s potential to improve quality and support affordability by promoting the best possible health outcomes for the people we mutually serve.
One of the aspects of our new partnership is that we will be collaborating over an extended timeframe to more robustly align payment for hospital services toward our success in achieving quality outcomes, improving the patient experience and addressing health care affordability on a population basis. This value-based payment model is an exciting development that supports our organizations’ reputations as leaders and innovators – and the expectations of our patients and insured members that we will provide them affordable care and excellent outcomes.
We are excited to work together, as partners, to advance quality, affordable health care in our communities and better the lives of the people we serve. We are excited about the path ahead.
